Not much to say about toays shot. It’s St Patricks Day, so I went for a few pints of the black stuff with some people from work.

Bit blury, only took a few quick snaps so didn’t have much to choose from. Thought I’d stay on topic though.

I took this one this evening in Trafalgar Square. Been meaning to head over there to try and get some shots for a while now.
This was taken on the right hand side set of fountains, a 3 shot HDR, only about the 4th or so I’ve tried.
I took a couple other shots around the fountains and even thought it was a pretty still evening a bunch of them came out with water all over the lens! So, they didn’t work out as well as planned.. :)

Anyway, pretty chuffed with how this one’s come out, still some artifacts left over from the merging in Photomatix on the left side that i missed in processing afterwards, but they’re not that noticeable.

My Plug In Baby – 43/365, originally uploaded by Simon Wicks.

Big plug socket just off Carnaby Street.
I’ve heard about this, but never managed to find it before. So i Google mapped it earlier, found it on Street View and marked it on a map to go and find this evening.
There’s a bit lamppost in front of it which is a shame, so i had to try and get it from some other angles. I’ve got a couple more shots which i’ll put up of it some other time as well.
The sky was really nice this evening, quite a dark blue, with lots of clouds, shame you cant see more of it in this shot.

This is the first time i’ve taken a picture into Photoshop to get rid of some things as well. Aperture is really slow at cloning things out I’m finding, Photoshop did it in no time at all. There were some buildings on the left hand side, now there isn’t :)

Really need to see this one a big bigger as well, it’s a bit dark at this medium size.

Grrrr, Aperture’s done something funny with the photo’s I’ve uploaded tonight it seems. It’s not uploaded the full sized one. And i can’t be bothered to go back and re-upload them and add them all to the groups again. So i’m not. *humph*

Description: This sculpture has been a highlight of Soho for the past few years. The form of a giant electrical plug and socket on the Ganton Street facade of the electricity sub-station at second floor level lights up at night and can change colours.

Get On The Good Foot – 42/365, originally uploaded by Simon Wicks.

This is one of my girlfriends feet. One of her friends did the slightly dodgy tattoo on it, she has the same thing but coloured in on the other foot in the same place.
Still getting used to the new 1.4 lens, even though i was using live-view for this shot on the floor, the focus is off just a tad. Should have done it with a different aperture. Didnt notice till i saw it on the big screen.

Paper Bokeh – 40/365

Paper Bokeh – 40/365, originally uploaded by Simon Wicks.

I got a 50mm prime recently, not had much of a chance to play with it as I’m struggling to fit things in as i’m used to having the 18-55 range with the kit lens i’ve been using. Trying to force myself to just keep this lens on now though, i am the zoom :)
I’ve aways really liked the out of focus when it’s not the main focus of the picture effect, or Bokeh for it’s technical term. So i’m really glad i can get a great effect with this lens at 1.4.

This was just a quick shot of some Evening Standard newspapers on top of an electricity box on my walk to the station this evening. The traffic and building in the background are fantastic source of light for the Bokeh in this shot, and it came out so much better than i was hoping for.

Having to edit on just my Macbook’s screen this evening as I’m out of the house, away from my 24″ screen, so a lot harder to touch the pics up!
i tried to brighten just the paper using Aperture’s masks, but cant get straight enough lines using the trackpad, so apart from a slight Vignette the picture’s pretty much as it came out of the camera.

The Eye of the Beholder – 39/365

Tonights shot was taken in Fortnum & Mason near Piccadilly Circus, London. I’d never been in this shop before, never even heard of it..
My girlfriend was after some things for Mother’s Day so we took a wander around. It’s an impressive place, about 4 floors, packed with some great stuff, some of it quite pricey though. I bought 3 boxes of biscuits. Nom nom.

This shot was taken looking up from the 1st floor to the top, looks kinda like an eye. It’s quite cropped as i only managed to get part of the 2nd floor railings in, even shooting at the widest end or my lens and almost laying on the floor in a fancy shop..

Tonight I had a couple of shots in mind i wanted to get, but upon arrival at the place, a park, it was closed! I was stumped for where to go, and my idea for the evening shattered.
I wandered around the river for an hour or so trying to find some interesting shots when i came across this creepy alleyway just behind Temple Tube Station. I walked up it, seems to be the back of a school or college, with a church off to one side. This shot was taken from the road side though on my way back out.
I’ve been getting some weird glare with my lenses at night recently, might have to invest in a couple of hoods I think..
Humph.

I’ve gone for something a little different with my choice tonight. I’m not really one for taking pictures of people when I’m out and about, unless I know them. But, I’m going to try and be more sneaky from now on, and see what I can come up with.
This is a little bit of a rough start, I only managed to get 4 shots before my battery died, but wanted to use this one for today to start the new idea off.
Taken near Victoria Station. I’ll go back one evening as they’re always there and try to get some better ones.
